Biographical information for George Gibbs

The attached research notes entitled "George Gibbs, the Life of a Railway Tunneller" tell the story of one of the 'navvies' involved in the construction of Rise Hill Tunnel. According to the 1871 census, George (aged 30) lived at number 15 "Railway Hut" with Jane (his second wife, aged 28), George's four children from his first marriage (aged 12, 5, 3 and 1) and five unrelated adults (a railway labourer and four railway miners). The research notes were compiled by Ken and Sarah Lister for family interest (Ken is the 2x great grandson of George Gibbs) and they are reproduced here with the kind permission of Ken and Sarah.
