Biographical information for George Gibbs

Ken & Sarah Lister have compiled a set of research notes entitled "George Gibbs, the Life of a Railway Tunneller" that tell the story of one of the 'navvies' involved in the construction of Rise Hill Tunnel.

According to the 1871 census, George Gibbs (aged 30) lived at number 15 "Railway Hut" with Jane (his second wife, aged 28), George's four children from his first marriage (aged 12, 5, 3 and 1) and five unrelated adults (a railway labourer and four railway miners).

The research notes were compiled for family interest (Ken is the 2x great grandson of George Gibbs) and they have been uploaded to the SCRCA web-portal with the kind permission of Ken and Sarah. The notes can be accessed (in the form of a 3Mb pdf file) via the following link:
