This image showing the west elevation of the platelayers' hut referred to as 'Masons Hut' was taken from a stationary train. The rail-side and rail-height vantage point make this a particularly useful reference photograph. Note the extended flue rising from the chimney: this would have been an attempt to improve the 'draw' of the stove and to prevent the cutting (and the platelayers' hut) filling with smoke. The condition of the hut has deteriorated significantly since this photograph was taken.
