The gradient post is laid on the banking on the left hand side (down) of the railway, almost directly opposite the white speed marker on the up side line.  Also in the image on the down line side is gradient post ref 253520.  

On the right line side (up) on the right of the image is milepost 253 1/2 - ref 253500.
