To avoid fouling the loading-gauge in tunnels and other restricted locations, wall-plates rather than mileposts were used as distance markers. This 257½ mile wall-plate was originally located inside Moorcock Tunnel, but now resides at the Midland Railway Study Centre in the Derby's Museum of Making (formerly the Silk Mill Museum) where it forms part of the Roy F. Burrows Midland Collection (item reference RFBMCT13390). The photograph shows the wall-plate after restoration.
