SCRCA Formal Description for Horton-in-Ribblesdale Yard Office and Weighing Machine

Description

Railway building and equipment for the Midland Railway, c1876. Architect (assumed): attributed to J.H. Sanders. Small single storey weighbridge office in coursed sandstone walls, with pitched Welsh slated roof with grey tile ridges and verges. Plain timber bargeboards. Cast iron rainwater goods.

Front elevation facing weighing machine and railway: Plain wall with central window timber framed with three mullions, now obscured by small modern timber lean-to extension.

Rear elevation to station yard: Plain wall with centrally placed chimney with decorative stone cap, now cut down below roof level. This elevation was not accessible at the time of writing this Description. Details assumed.

Right end elevation: two single windows in stone surrounds, each with two-light sashes.

Left end elevation: Centrally placed single door, now with modern door.

Notes

1: The Yard Office appears now to be in private ownership and in commercial use. The weighing machine has been removed.

2: It is not listed.
