Description
Railway building and equipment for the Midland Railway, c1876. Architect (assumed): attributed to J.H. Sanders. Small single storey weighbridge office in coursed sandstone walls, quoins, jambs, heads and sills in red sandstone, with pitched Welsh slated roof with grey tile ridges and verges. Plain timber bargeboards. Cast iron rainwater goods.
Front elevation facing weighing machine and railway: Plain wall with central window timber framed with three mullions and three-light sashes, now replaced by modern metal or uPVC single light window with narrow upper top light.
Rear elevation to station yard boundary: Plain wall with centrally placed chimney with decorative stone cap. This elevation was not accessible at the time of writing this Description. Details assumed.
Right end elevation: Assumed centrally placed single door, now concealed behind modern timber lean-to extension, with narrow vertical slot window above in upper part of gable with red sandstone surrounds.
Left end elevation: two single windows in red sandstone surrounds, each with single light sashes, with narrow vertical slot window above in upper part of gable also with red sandstone surrounds.
Notes
1: The Yard Office is now in private ownership and in domestic use. The weighing machine has been removed.
