On 8th June 2020, Network Rail lodged planning application number S/02/76C/LB with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority seeking "listed building consent for works to repair and refurbish existing railway station signal box".

Update, April 28th, 2021: The planning application has been approved and Network Rail has advised local residents that the refurbishment work is due to be carried out between June 14th and September 17th, 2021.
Update, August 31st, 2022: The refurbishment work has been completed and the signal box now looks as good as new.
