Plate 54 is an un-dated image of the north portal of Blea Moor Tunnel. A feature of the tunnel mouth is the stepped channels down both sides of the portal which enables beck and flood water to be contained as it runs of the fells. On reaching ground level the water is diverted below track level. An image of this type of channel is available on the following image of the south portal of Shotlock Tunnel - https://www.foscl.org.uk/content/scrca-image-2584702013-02-16knutmshotlock-tunnel-south-portalelevation-e-02
