Snippet Detail

Plates 125 and 126 show Crosby Garrett station from the north and south and were probably taken on the same day.

Plate 125 looks south takes in all the facilities provided at this location, illustrates the Midland Railway and the S&C Line. The photograph was taken some years after the formation of the LMS Company.  On the left is the goods shed for three wagons (/location-summaries/structure-269910), a cattle dock for six wagons (/location-summaries/structure-269830), then the station building near the end of the platform (/location-summaries/structure-269810) which for most of its length stood at the foot of the cutting spanned by the three arch bridge (/location-summaries/structure-269800).

The signal box (/location-summaries/structure-269930 )(brought into use on 16 April 1899) was constructed of wood, measured 16' 6" and had a 20 lever tumbler frame and a renewal cost of £250 (W & W Committee Minute No 16760, 4/11/1898).  Initially closed on 12 April 1965, it remained available for use until 1967.

The station building (/location-summaries/structure-269810), cattle dock (/location-summaries/structure-269830) and goods shed (/location-summaries/structure-269910) are shown more clearly in Plate 126.  This photograph looks to have been taken from under the three arch bridge  (/location-summaries/structure-269800).
