Plate 129 is a context view from 1962 of the west face of Griseburn Viaduct. The seven arch limestone structure is important as it marks the halfway point of the line. It is 142 yards long and 74ft high.
It was built between 1873 and 1875 to span the valley of Potts Beck, known by the Midland railway cartographers as Helm Beck, and by the estate agents as Waterhouses Beck.
Stone is used for abutments, wings, piers and parapets with red sandstone being used to face the brick arches and parapets.
