Snippet Detail

Plate 180 is of Lazonby, showing the east face of bridge No 306 - 292 miles 44 chains - immediately to the south of Lazonby station, and carrying the railway over the Lazonby to Kirkoswald road.  The bridge was built entirely of stone, each span being 25ft.  The parapet on the western side was surmounted by cast-iron railings, provided as a precaution to prevent passengers stepping over the parapet from coaches of trains which were too long to fit the platform.
