Description

Station Platform Building. c1957. Single storey single depth range parallel to track, coursed rock-faced golden freestone walls, pitched blue slated roof fitted with ridge tiles. Gables fitted with decorative timber bargeboards and lead/metal-covered gable cappings.

West elevation to platform: Single plane. From left, one 4-light, to right two separate 2-light metal windows. Gable to left has single door, gable to right has a further single door.

East elevation to station yard: Wall, with 2 4-light metal windows.

Notes

1: On plan the building is divided into two separate public toilets.

2: It is not listed.

3: The Southern Building (SCRCA Location ID 256660) on the same up platform and the Waiting Room (SCRCA Location ID 256670) opposite on the down, northbound platform are separately described.

4: The station was opened by the Midland Railway on 1st August 1876 as “Hawes Junction”; it was re-named “Hawes Junction and Garsdale” on 20th January 1900, then reverted to “Garsdale” on 1st September 1932. The station was closed on 4th May 1970 but re-opened on 14th July 1986.
