Snippet Detail

On page 8 there is a fascinating undated B&W context photograph of Settle Goods yard (including the goods shed and Settle Station Signal Box) taken from the south end of the 'down' platform.

Page 18 includes the following reference to Settle Station Signal Box: "The 20-lever signalbox, of 21 ft x 11 ft, with the floor at 8 ft, was constructed and positioned in 1891. (It was closed in 1984)."

On page 23 there is another fascinating undated B&W context photograph of Settle Goods yard (including the goods shed and Settle Station Signal Box) taken from the south end of the 'up' platform.

On page 34 there is an undated B&W elevation photograph of Settle Station Signal Box taken from the north. The signal box is clearly out of use and the goods shed has been demolished, replaced by a relatively modern light industrial unit.

On page 40 there is a third fascinating undated B&W context photograph of Settle Goods yard taken from the steps of Settle Station Signal Box looking northwards, with the station and tank house just visible in the distance.

On page 45 there is an undated B&W elevation photograph of Settle Station Signal Box taken from the north. The signal box is clearly out of use and the goods shed has been demolished, replaced by a relatively modern light industrial unit, with a southbound Sprinter DMU (in what appears to be BR Regional Railways livery) passing-by.
