The free-standing waiting room on the 'Up' platform was constructed during the winter of 2016-17 to provide shelter for passengers when the main station building is closed and locked out of use. It cost £28,000 and was officially opened (with a ribbon-cutting ceremony) on 3rd August 2017 by Andy Savage (Executive Director of the Railway Heritage Trust).
