Bridge SAC/10 was built to carry the railway accross a path known locally as 'the Occupation Road'. The path provided a relatively direct walking route between Settle town and the mills at Langcliffe & Stackhouse. To facilitate an extension of Holy Ascension Church graveyard in 1885, the path was re-routed under Bridge SAC/9 (Church Viaduct) and along the western side of the railway. Bridge SAC/10 continued to provide access to the adjacent field until relatively recently, but the arch is now fenced-off.
