SCRCA structure 242495: Bridge SAC/45A Horton-in-Ribblesdale Station footbridge (passengers & PROW, footpath)

SCRCA Location Introduction

The footbridge at the south end of Horton-in-Ribblesdale Station was constructed during 2024 to provide a safe crossing point for rail passengers & footpath users and facilitate the removal of the southern barrow crossing (which Network Rail had classified as "one of the most high-risk crossings on the railway network").

The footbridge is being funded by Network Rail and the Department for Transport's 'Access for All' scheme and it opened on 2nd December 2024. However, the lifts are not due to be installed until 2025, so the temporary level crossing is being retained in the interim to provide step-free access for rail users. Other work scheduled for completion in 2025 includes the new access route for footpath users at the eastern end of the footbridge and the addition of cladding to the exterior of the lift shafts (which will then be similar in appearance to the sides of the bridge).
