SCRCA structure 250050: Bridge SAC/72 - Blea Moor Tunnel

SCRCA Location Introduction

Blea Moor Tunnel is 2,629 yards (2,404 metres) long and it is the longest tunnel within the Settle Carlisle Railway Conservation Area (SCRCA). At its deepest point (between shafts 2 and 3), the tunnel is approximately 500 feet (152 metres) below the ground surface.

This Location Record is for the underground section of the tunnel and the geolocation data (latitude & longitude) relates to the approximate mid-point between the two tunnel-mouths. Construction involved the sinking of at least five separate shafts, three of which have been retained to provide ventilation (see 'Associated Locations' below).

Note: Tunnel interiors cannot be photographed by SCRCA Project volunteers.
