This water crane (a.k.a. 'water column') was installed with the adjacent tank house circa 1991 to supply water to steam locomotives hauling occassional special passenger services. It was originally located at the northwest end of the 'down' platform at Lazonby & Kirkoswald station, but was removed from there in 1989.
