Little Salkeld Viaduct carries the Settle & Carlisle Railway (S&CR) over Briggle Beck (a tributary of the River Eden) and the mill-race for Langwathby Mill (a.k.a. Dodds Mill).
The viaduct is 134 yards long, 60ft high and has 7 arches.
The arches are turned in blue brick and have a span of 44 feet 7 inches.
The abutments, wing walls, piers, spandrels and parapets are constructed from red sandstone (probably obtained from one of the nearby cuttings). However, gritstone was used for the springers, string courses and coping stones (probably to reduce the risk of water penetrating into the masonry and / or to provide visual contrast).
Metal guard rails were fitted along the top of the parapet walls in 2016.
