From 30th July 1849 to 1st June 1880, Hellifield was served by a tiny country station that was operated by the North Western Railway (NWR) and accessed via Haw Lane. The facilities included a pair of platforms ('Up' and 'Down'); a timber station building (similar in design to the one at Gargrave) beside the 'Down' platform; a house for the Station Master immediately adjacent to the station building; a signal box; and a small goods yard with cattle pen & loading dock. Passenger trains stopped calling at the old station when the new Hellifield Station (SCRCA site 231281) opened 35 chains (just under half a mile) to the northwest. However, the NWR goods yard remained in use for local goods traffic, so the old station was renamed Hellifield Goods Station.
The old station buildings were demolished some time around 1966. There are no extant structures associated with the old station and it lies outside the boundary of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Conservation Area, so individual demolished structures are not being included in the SCRCA Project database. Please note that this station is closed - i.e. it is no longer served by passengers trains. There is no public access to the site, although it is partially visible from Haw Lane. The site now appears to be used for grazing and / or other agricultural purposes.
