This detailed and attractive coloured plan (drawn at a scale of "40 Feet to an Inch") depicts the earthworks, structures, track layout and signalling arrangements at Hawes Junction Station (now Garsdale) on the Settle and Carlisle Railway. SCRCA Primary Reference: Review of Contract No. 1 for Ribblehead Viaduct and Blea Moor Tunnel

The 'Indenture' dated 1869 for 'Contract No. 1.' includes a section headed "BATTYE MOSS VIADUCT AND BLEA MOOR TUNNEL". This includes specifications for brickwork, spandrills, bond of arches, frost, arches, tunnel shafts and headings, masonry, mortar, requirements for completion of the contract and a schedule of prices. These landscape 'features' are certainly spoil tips associated with the construction of the Settle-Carlisle Railway in the area adjacent to what is now the south portal of Blea Moor Tunnel.
